Golden Milk
Turmeric and curcumin (its most active compound) have been touted as a superfood with the potential to reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and cancer. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis. But importantly, turmeric makes for a delicious, warm treat to make at home. Not only is this Golden Milk easy to make, but it’s also a creamy and delightful alternative to turmeric-ginger tea.
Ingredients
Golden Milk
- Light coconut milk (canned), 1 1/2 cups
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened plain, dairy-free milk: almond, oat, or soy
- 1 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1 whole cinnamon stick (or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon // I prefer the stick!)
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
Directions
- Add coconut and dairy-free milk to a large enough pot on medium heat. Bring milk to a simmer.
- Add turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper to the milk and stir in with a whisk.
- Whisk frequently for 4-5 minutes on low heat.
